What if I miss a Zoom session?
We want you to try to attend the live Zoom sessions, but they are always recorded and we will post them online. If you miss a session just watch it on your own time and stay current with the class!
Can I call you and ask questions?
The phone number is (702) 418-3332 and you can call me anytime. I am happy to answer short questions via phone or FB messenger. I try to give individualized attention to every student and I welcome your calls. If you need one-on-one coaching to help you with writing, outlining or other aspects of book writing, that is offered to class participants for a nominal fee for my time.
Does the book have to be on any specific topic?
You can write on any topic, either fiction or non-fiction. The principles in this course can be applied to any book from a novel to a memoir or really any genre or trope. Previous students in this course have written textbooks, counseling and therapy books, self-help books, erotic literature, religious books, poetry books, technology books, economics books, spiritual and Christian books, and even a book about raising giant rabbits! Write what you are passionate about. I take a librarian approach in this course, in that we will not burn books, even books I would find distasteful or with information I passionately disagree with. This class is a safe-space for all regardless of topic, political content, or controversy. The marketplace can decide if the book should have been written or not.
Can I get Continuing Education Hours?
No. State licensing boards do not permit CE hours to be awarded for personal development. But even without hours, this will be a career enhancing course.
How much time do I have to devote to this?
You will spend 1 hour a week or less viewing next step tutorials and 75 minutes each week in Zoom. Participants average 5-10 hours per week of writing time, organizational time, and production time to getting it done. If you do the homework you will finish, if you do not dedicate the time, you will not.
Will this be a real book that bookstores stock?
Bookstores worldwide will be able to order your book, as will libraries, schools and other organizations from the same wholesalers that all books come from. Richard will share some inside secrets for getting shelf space in local retailers for your book. And of course, if you're lucky, you're book might be one of the small minorities that get shelf space nationwide.
Are there additional costs?
I typically spend $300-$600 for book cover graphics, editing and proofreading, and typesetting. I do not spend much on marketing, choosing to use organic reach instead. I will share my resources with you, and you should expect to spend about the same for a 20,000-60,000 word book. If you cannot afford to spend $300-$600 in additional money on you book you should not take this course. That being said, I have never lost money publishing a book, your results may vary.
What if it takes me longer than 12-weeks?
I want you to try to stay on track with the group. But some will have delays, personal issues, etc. You will have lifelong access to the tutorials and replays and can finish on your own time using these resources. But if at all possible, stay with the group and devote your time to this. It will pay lifelong rewards to you. You can do it! Many people thought they could not finish, but by watching the tutorials and sticking to dedicated writing time each week, you will finish!
What about children's books, picture and photography books, recipe books or other non-standard print books?
This course will help you get them done! A regular paperback (or hadcover) book of any size that includes, charts, diagrams, black and white photos, and simple illustrations is part of of this course. That being said, I will NOT be covering production of color printing, or non-standard formatting (like recipe books with multiple images, photgraphy books, or technical manuals). Many of the principles are similar, and the steps are the same and you will benefit from this course and I will try to point you to resources for finishing your project, but understand at the outset that non-standard books with special printing requirements are NOT a part of this course.
Withdrawal and Refund Policy
Refunds will be issued if you withdraw from this class by notifying us via email 3 or more days in advance of the first scheduled Zoom meeting. Refunds after this date will only be issued in the form of a credit for a future event and must be made within 14 days of the class start date. If you elect to take a future class, the tuition you paid will be applied to whatever the cost of the next class is, and you will be expected to pay any difference. After 14 days there are no refunds or credits offered, and a refund will not be made. You will continue to have lifelong access to the contents in this course (my life not yours), and even if you do not finish with the class in twelve weeks, you can go back and access the course materials on your own time and schedule and finish when you can. You must notify us via email at richard@twelveweekbook.com or by telephone (702) 418-3332 to withdraw from this class or change your participation to a future class.
